Membership

Though Charlotte Trans Health started as a small group of 13 providers, we have since grown to include providers from at least 15 disciplines dispersed among a variety of private practice, small group, and hospital systems.

Commitment to Provider Education

Charlotte Trans Health was founded with a mission centered on education and competent best-practice in working with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals. Expanding our membership aims to reduce health disparities in our community as well as increase access to and awareness of providers committed to serving our local transgender community. Interdisciplinary collaboration within Charlotte Trans Health allows for sharing of knowledge and resources among all members committed to supporting this community.

Eligibility for Membership

We take pride in expanding our membership as a means of reducing health
disparities in our community and increasing access and awareness of providers
committed to serving our local transgender and gender-diverse community. We
also are very aware of the history of provider trauma within the community and
the need for an organization such as ourselves to responsibly create
transparency around membership requirements and community access to provider information that will assist them in choosing a provider for their care. Since we are a volunteer organization made up of providers within numerous
healthcare settings, we are unable to formally vet providers, nor are we an
exhaustive list of providers competent in trans healthcare in the local area.

For these reasons, to be eligible for membership or participate in meetings to
increase competency providing trans-competent care, one must first be a
licensed or license-eligible health care provider. This means that the
clinician is a medical/mental health provider that is overseen by a licensing
board, has a code of ethics to adhere to, and adheres to HIPAA confidentiality
laws.

Additionally, to join the group, providers are asked to sign a Provider
Attestation
assuring their commitment to ethical and culturally competent
practice and a Provider Self-Rating of Transgender Healthcare Competency and
to commit to ongoing education and participation. This generally means
participating in meetings aimed at provider education and interdisciplinary
collaboration and community events and/or attending healthcare trainings
specific to trans health and competency opportunities led by trans-identified
individuals.

For this reason, we welcome providers to attend meetings and build competency,
as well as to decide if they feel prepared to join. Our meetings include
education, clinical consultation, advocacy, and familiarizing ourselves with
resources in the area.
