Education

Continuing education for healthcare providers is at the core of our history and identity as an organization. We also believe that education about TGD people and gender affirming care is vital to increasing healthcare access and eliminating health disparities. Education and interdisciplinary case consultation are the focus of our membership program (hyperlink). We also offer trainings and consultation to local healthcare and social service organizations seeking to improve their care for TGD people.

Training

Charlotte Trans Health also conducts outreach through providing training to other healthcare providers and organizations in the region. These trainings can span from increasing cultural and medical competency focused organizational training for large institutions, medical specialty training related to gender-affirming medical and mental health provision, or connecting providers with 1:1 clinical supervision for practitioners seeking licensure.

Our current prepared presentation options include:

This broad overview is perfect for all staff trainings for organizations starting their journey in offering gender affirming care or working with TGD clients/ patients. It covers language and terminology related to LGBT people; health disparities experienced by TGD people, beliefs and biases that impact healthcare, organizational inclusivity, and resources for clients and continuing professional development.

This presentation is intended for mental health providers looking to delve into common presenting issues among TGD clients. Interchangeable modules on surgical referral letter writing, trauma, neurodiversity (ADHD/Autism), substance use disorders, and eating disorders give your team the opportunity to hone in on the most pressing topics in their work.

This focused presentation for medical providers is intended to help staff feel prepared to begin perscribing HRT to TGD adults. It covers symptom assessment/ gender dysphoria diagnosis, informed consent, prescription guidance, and follow up labs.

Increase your Competency

If you are a healthcare provider looking for more information on gender-affirming healthcare, we invite you to contact our Membership Chair to attend a meeting and to check out the following resources for further information and education. We also invite you to use our Provider Level of Transgender Healthcare Competency Self-Rating Scale to assess your competency in gender-affirming care to ensure you are practicing within your scope. Learning about gender-affirming care is new to many providers, and it is an ever-evolving field. Whether you have yet to see your first transgender patient (that you know of) or have years of experience with gender-affirming care, we welcome you to collaborate with us at Charlotte Trans Health!

Community Health Education

CTH is also committed to increasing knowledge about TGD experiences and healthcare needs throughout our community. Further, credible health information tailored to TGD people can be hard to find and is often full of confusing medical jargon. Our Community Education events aim to combat misinformation about gender affirming care, promote broad baseline knowledge of transgender people and issues, and empower TGD individuals to navigate complex healthcare systems with confidence and make informed decisions about their care.
